Simple Witchcraft to Make Every Day Magickal

Some days it can be hard to muster up the energy to get out of bed, let alone do witchcraft. And that’s okay! I believe we should listen to our mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical bodies and what they tell us.

But what if it’s a matter of not having enough time? Or you don’t want to get too involved with a ritual or ceremony? Then this list is for you! Full rituals or ceremonies are not a prerequisite to practicing magick. As long as you have a strong intent and the will, that’s enough.

I’ve compiled this list of simple witchcraft in order to help those looking to pare down complex casting into something much more manageable. Let’s get into it.

TECH

As time is the one thing we can’t buy more of, it makes sense to use tools that allow us to make the most of it. I love living in the modern age that we do and I take full advantage of technology to support my craft whenever I can.

Here are a few apps and sites I use:

Golden Thread App

This app is amazing. It’s perfect for both beginner Tarot readers and seasoned practitioners. A feature called My Mirror is a daily card pull that gives a full explanation of what the card means. It also allows you to record your emotional response to the card. With enough data, it will compile your mood over time averaging the week, month, and year.

They have all kinds of spreads, with love, career, growth, and spiritual themes to choose from. You can even choose a general reading, too! If you want to use your own cards for a spread, that’s an option as well. This is a great way to start physically pulling your own spreads. The app walks you through the process from start to finish.

They also have a full Tarot database. You can search or filter by suit if you’re looking for a specific card’s meaning. If not, simply swipe through for simple definitions. They have learning modules that guide you through an introduction, the relationship between magick and the Tarot, the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana, too.

Your log records your daily card pulls and any spreads you may have done using their Get A Reading feature. All of your data is stored on your phone so make sure you have the space. If you want to back your data up, you will need to create a free account. As long as you’re logged in and you’re connected to the internet, your readings are stored automatically.

My Moon Phase

The features of this app have become a favorite of mine. Not only does it offer the current moon phase, but it also gives weather conditions for the day and the best time to view the sky clearly! And if you’re a photographer, My Moon Phase offers times for Golden Hour and Blue Hour. Golden Hour is when the sky will exhibit golden hues, and the same for Blue Hour.

Other features include:

-The moon’s rising and setting times
-The sun’s rising and setting times
-The moon’s distance in kilometers
-The moon’s age in days
-The moon’s altitude in degrees
-The moon’s azimuth in degrees
-The moon’s zodiac
-The moon’s next cycle

Chani

I do not have enough space to sing the praises of this astrologer and her fantastic app. I use it every single day, multiple times throughout the day.

-From her Wikipedia page: “Chani Nicholas is a Canadian astrologer. She weaves progressive politics, activism, and queer identity into her work.”

-From her site: “BUILT WITH CARE BY ASTROLOGERS AND SURVIVORS
100% of horoscopes and birth chart readings in the app was written by Chani Nicholas and a team of professional astrologers.

The app was built in partnership with the development team AnnieCannons, Inc, a queer-led software development agency whose engineers are predominantly survivors of human trafficking and/or gender-based violence.

5% of all app profits will be disbursed directly to Black, Latinx, Native/Indigenous, Queer and/or Trans survivors of gender-based violence by FreeFrom.org.”

The weekly readings and horoscopes are thorough and well-thought out. She offers a mini podcast for the week ahead and a 7 day ‘astroweather’ forecast for the collective mood. In the current sky, you can check out where the planets are and how they’re impacting you directly.

You also get your chart, workshops, transits, and meditations. I do pay monthly for my subscription. However, I have no qualms with the $12/mo price tag between the invaulable resources and knowing where my money is going and who it is supporting.

If you are unable to pay for the app, here’s what comes with the free version (from her site):

“The app is free to download and there is a free experience in the app. The free version of the app offers your weekly horoscope, exclusive access to Chani’s podcast for the week ahead, a view of your birth chart and the location of all of your planets PLUS a horoscope for every planet in the sky and how it is impacting you right now.”

Sigil Scribe

Lastly, I used to use this site much more frequently than I do now. It’s not because of its accessibility or design or anything like that. I just got more hands on with my sigil work is all.

But, if you’re looking for a program to make a sigil for you, I suggest using sigilscribe.me. Once you pull up the site, you’ll see that it is very simple in design. You’re presented with a form and the instructions: “Enter your will below and submit the form. Watch your sigil take shape.”

And just like magick, once your enter your will and hit the submit button, the algorithm takes over, truncates your letters and builds your sigil right before your eyes. Now all you have to do is save it (you can choose PNG or vector form) and charge it!

You also have the option to donate to the developer to thank them which I highly recommend. This is a genius service that they are not charging for. Creators need love too!

IN THE KITCHEN

We all gotta eat and drink, right? And we do it multiple times a day. Use it to your advantage with kitchen witchery!

SWEETEN YOUR DAY SPELL

  • Prepare your cup with whatever you like in your tea or coffee. Drizzle honey in your teacup or spoon sugar in your coffee mug. As you’re doing this, visualize how this is making your day sweeter. Maybe you get a slough of texts from your beau throughout the day or someone gives you a super nice compliment at work. Picture whatever sweet looks like to you.
  • Next, pour your beverage of choice into your vessel. Stir your drink deasil (clockwise) while chanting this as many times as feels right to you:
  • Sugar’s sweet
    So am I
    Bring to me
    What I desire
  • Drink your coffee or tea. As you taste the sweetness, feel yourself receiving your intention and what you visualized

If you’re looking to increase or decrease anything else in your life, stirring deasil increases and widdershins (counterclockwise) decreases.

-Another simple way to add magick into your daily life is with sigils – especially if you use sigilscribe.me to make yours. You can carve the sigil into things like pie crusts or trace them into cooking vessels with your finger before adding food. The heat from baking or cooking will activate them. Then you literally eat your magick!

-When you’re seasoning your food, choose edible magickal herbs that correspond with your intentions.

-Drink moon water. This one obviously needs to be prepped by making your own. By making sure you make sufficient quantities when you do, you’ll always have some on hand.

-If you don’t have any moon water on hand, charge other water with your intention. This is an easy way to focus your energy for a quick pick-me-up that will last for a couple of hours.

-Looking to banish something? What about protection? Make a meal using a lot of garlic.

-Here are some foods to promote sensuality and sexual energy: blackberries, brandy, caraway seed, cardamom, cherries, chocolate, cinnamon, figs, ginger, honey, mangoes, mint, nutmeg, olives, peaches, plum wine, raspberries, rose water, strawberries, truffles, vanilla yams

-Make a tea using edible magickal herbs and their correspondences. Chamomile for sleep, St John’s Wort for depression, etc.

IN THE BEDROOM

As I’ve gotten older, one of the things I’ve really come to enjoy is a good night’s sleep. Coming from a restless Sagittarius, I never thought I would say that. I never wanted the party to stop. But now that I’m out of my hard partying years, my sleep ritual is one I’d be lost without.

Carve the time out of the evening to devote to yourself and I guarantee everything in your life will improve.

-Signify to your mind and body it’s time to start your nighttime ritual with a cup of tea. Switch up the flavors and herbs or keep it consistent. Include the technique of stirring deosil to increase the hours of restful sleep you get or widdershins to decrease nightmares.

-Enchant your skin care products to induce sleep, attract psychic dreams, have anti-nightmare effects, etc. As you go through your nighttime skin care routine, visualize your intentions coming to fruition.

-Do a quick pre-sleep meditation session. I like to get situated, tell my fiance I love him, and then close my eyes and focus on my breathing. The only difference from my morning meditation is that I’m horizontal.

IN THE BATHROOM

Just like with my simple bedroom magick, the bathroom is another great place to incorporate witchcraft.

-Bathing and showering rituals are so simple as it’s another thing we do every day. Visualization is the key here (as with all magick). While showering, stand under the water and use your mind’s eye to see it washing away stress, negative energies, a bad argument from the day, self-sabotaging actions, etc.

-In the bath, soak away the same type of negative energies. Do a body scan as you’re laying the tub, starting at the top of your head and moving towards your feet. Feel the strain, the aches, the pains all dissipate. As you stand up and pull the tub’s plug, watch all of it disappear away from you down the drain.

-As you did with your nighttime skin routine products, enchant your daily skin care items. Infuse them with positive energy, protective qualities, and anything else you need to face the day.

DAILY DO’S

These are magickal things that you’re probably already doing without recognizing it!

-Walking through the park and being in nature connects us to Mother Earth

-Listening to music can put us in chill moods and in turn increase our vibration

-Lighting incense cleanses your space with its smoke

-Meditation connects us to our higher selves

IN CONCLUSION…

These are just a few ways to incoporate magick into your everyday life. If you’ve already been doing these, maybe your life is more magickal that you realized. And if you haven’t, there’s never been a better time than this to start. Go make magick!
