11 Signs You’re Dating A Witch

Are you dating a witch or just a person who is really into candles? These 11 signs point to some of the qualities shared by witches and practitioners alike. However, this isn’t meant to be used in malice. Not all witches practice openly. Please keep that in mind!

Without further ado, here are 11 signs you could be dating a (fabulous!) witch:

1. They have a crystal for that

When you first begin to date a witch, you may notice some shiny rocks here and there. But as time goes on you may start to see a crystal fall out of their bra or find one under your pillow. When you get to a level of comfortability of sharing your experiences and problems with one another, they may offer you a Black Tourmaline for protection or a Tiger’s Eye for releasing fears or anxiety. Do yourself a favor: take the shiny rock.

2. They collect things from nature

It is not uncommon to witness a witch collecting things from Mother Nature. I do it all of the time (with permission, of course). My partner knows the surest way to my heart is gifting me seashells, a cool stick, a bundle of wildflowers, etc. Nature’s bounty is plentiful and compliments a myriad of witchcraft practices. Seeing the person you’re dating gathering goods from outside is a telltale sign of their predilection for magick.

3. They tend their own herb garden

This sign alone isn’t enough to garner suspicions of witchcraft. There are plenty of home chefs who enjoy cooking with the freshest ingredients possible. However, those who tend their own herb garden for magickal purposes could very well be kitchen or hearth witches and use their harvests for food, spells, and offerings.

4. Your luck has changed for the better

This sign is also not a hard and fast rule. After all, not all witches are created equal. Having said that, some witches cast for the ones they care about. Spells for things like protection or abundance are pretty common for practitioners to bestow on the people in their life. At least, for me.

5. They can read a room/person easily

Developed intuition is a blessing that a lot of practitioners are gifted with. If the person you are dating shares that the vibe is off in a space or a person you come into contact with is shady, listen to them.

6. There’s no such thing as too many candles

Sure, candlelight is ambient and cozy and can set the mood for all sorts of activities. But to a witch, candles offer so much more. They are used as offerings to deities, in spellwork, and in devotional rites just to name a few applications. Look around their living space (once you are granted access, of course) and take note of the candle count.

7. They know what phase the Moon is in

One of the first inklings my partner had about me being a witch had to do with this sign. I did not think anything of it as knowing the phase of the Moon is second nature to me. I believe our dear Lunar Lady has a profound effect and impact on our lives. It is just a must-know. If the person you are seeing just happens to know – like, all of the time – what phase the Moon is in, it’s pretty telling that they are probably a practitioner.

8. They know what planets are going in/currently in/coming out of retrograde

This one aligns with sign #7. The powerful pull of the planets affects everything in our lives, just as the Moon does. Personally, I do not feel prepared to face the world without knowing what I am up against astronomically. And yes, if things are mentioned by others wondering “Why is this happening?” I will be the first to offer a reason linked to astronomy

9. Animals seem to appear out of thin air

I have several friends who are witches that this sign rings true for. Admittedly, I have always been a little envious of them and their Disney princess-like call to the animal kingdom. Rabbits, squirrels, dogs, birds, etc. are drawn to them out of nowhere. They are so nonchalant about it, too! This one a BIG sign you are dating a witch.

10. They encourage discussion rather than shy away from it

This one applies to a lot of topics, but I think particularly religious discussions. Witchcraft, magick and its practitioners all fall under the attack of others who do not believe in it. Typically, witches are readily available and accessible to talk about origin, belief, practices, comparison – in a civilized way. I know I am! Rather than shy away from learning from others, practitioners are more than willing to listen and in turn, share their experiences.

11. They are unlike most other people

It takes a special kind of person to answer the call of magick. There is a certain level of shedding that needs to take place by the practitioner in order to step into themself fully. Part of that which gets cast off is the place that was once held in society and how others perceive them. With time, being different feels comfortable. Even knowing that you are seen differently by others becomes second nature. So if you are dating a person who does not fit the mold of societal norms, it is a definite sign you are dating a witch!

I do not want you to get it twisted. All of these signs can point to you dating a witch; however, it is not a checklist to push someone out of the broom closet. I sincerely hope that you would think twice before doing something of that nature.

Besides, dating a witch is one of the greatest gifts you could have bestowed upon you.

Bright Blessings.
