Bright Blessings, Witches! Today’s post we’re focusing on how to jumpstart a magickal practice. Life happens to all of us and for one reason for another, our craft falls to the wayside. However, this is completely normal and nothing to be ashamed of!
Having said that, it is important to give yourself the time you need before rushing back into your craft. Whatever the reason why you have not been practicing, make sure you have the capacity in your life to begin again.
5 WAYS TO JUMP-START YOUR MAGICKAL PRACTICE

The following five methods of jump-starting a magickal practice can be done individually or combined to get the best results. What works for you may not work for another. Give each one a go and follow your gut to see if you feel anything stirring in connection to your craft.
These techniques are all simple and look to the mundane for inspiration. This makes the process easy to incorporate into your daily life as they are all things normally done by most people. So without further ado, let’s get into it.
1. STIRRING SPELL

Most everyone has a morning cup of coffee or tea. And most everyone has their preferred add-ins: sugar, stevia, honey, cream, half-and-half, oat milk, etc. By combining an AM wake-up beverage, the chosen add-ins, and a stirring spell you’re left with a bit of magick to bless your day.
Even if you prefer your cup o’ joe black, no sugar or your tea straight up, nothing is stopping you from using a stirring spell anyways.
The following is an excerpt from my other website, Candle Cross Coven:
This is such an easy way to incorporate into your everyday life and your everyday morning drink of coffee or tea! Stirring spells are exactly what they sound like: you physically stir whatever’s in your cup while chanting a spell.
This isn’t complicated high magick that requires ceremony and robe. Instead, it’s simple in structure and execution. All it really needs is proper attention and intention!
How to Cast a Stirring Spell

-Decide what you wish to bring in or ban from your life
-Pour your drink
-Add in your fixings (sugar, Splenda, milk, cream, etc.)
-Stir deasil (clockwise) to bring things in -OR- widdershins (counterclockwise) to diminish things
-As you stir, chant your incantation while visualizing your desire coming to fruition
There are loads of incantations out there, but here’s one of mine you can feel free to use.

SWEETEN YOUR DAY SPELL
- Prepare your cup with whatever you like in your tea or coffee.
- Drizzle honey in your teacup or spoon sugar in your coffee mug.
- As you’re doing this, visualize how this is making your day sweeter. Maybe you get a slough of texts from your beau throughout the day or someone gives you a super nice compliment at work. Picture whatever sweet looks like to you.
- Next, pour your beverage of choice into your vessel.
- Stir your drink deasil (clockwise) while chanting this as many times as feels right to you:

So am I
Bring to me
What I desire
Drink your coffee or tea. As you taste the sweetness, feel yourself receiving your intention and what you visualized.
Experiment with writing your own spell words. As you can see, it doesn’t have to be complicated or lengthy. It just needs to come from a place of belief.
2. BATHING RITUAL

Just like drinking a cup of coffee or tea to start the day, bathing is another mundane part of life that we can use to jump-start our practice. Whether you prefer baths or showers doesn’t matter. The focus of this method is the ritual.
We use water and soap to bathe ourselves. To add in a touch of magick you can incorporate visualization to cleanse your energies, too. This is especially useful after going through whatever made you drop your magickal practice in the first place.
Think of this method as the ultimate self-care – physically cleaning our bodies and energetically cleansing our spirits – to reset and begin anew. To do this, put your imagination to use and envision the entirety of you to be squeaky clean and rid of all that is plaguing and bogging you down.
This technique is gentle enough to do repeatedly without causing harm as long as you remember to close the ritual. To do this, visualize what you DO want to fill the empty energetic vacuum you created when you cleansed your spirit. The saying “think happy thoughts” works well here!
3. ONE CARD PULL

If you are inclined towards reading the Tarot – at any level – a simple one card pull can reintroduce using magick in your life. It’s best practice to keep your deck clear of unwanted energies by thoroughly shuffling, ringing a bell over it, passing the cards through smoke, etc. Paying careful attention to how your store your deck is important as well.
One way you may wish to incorporate this method is to carve out a special place to perform the card pull. The obvious choice is your altar; however, if you do not have one, any appointed place will do. Try to pick a designated time to do it every day so that it becomes second-nature. With time, you may even find yourself increasing the one card pull to multi-card spreads.
4. ATMOSPHERE

Sometimes simply setting the scene can change EVERYTHING. You could invest in your favorite incense to enhance your mood to start practicing again. Strike a match to light that candle you’ve been saving for a special occasion as a way to entice you to approach your craft.
To take this method a step further, you could also clean, cleanse, and decorate a space in your home to cast in. Hit the thrift store and see what treasures you can bring into your craft. New items can stimulate your want to pick up the wand again. Just make sure you also cleanse any objects – especially secondhand – before using them.
5. CHARM YOUR HAIRBRUSH

Casting a simple charm can set you back on your path. I recommend this one as brushing your hair is another mundane, everyday kind of task. But first, what is a charm? Well it can be one of two things:
“1. An incantation or a selection of words meant to depict a desired outcome. The charm/incantation/words are designed for mental focus and to aid the practitioner in directing energy towards their end goal. This definition is synonymous with ‘spell’ – words used in magick to produce a specific outcome.
2. An object to embody a desired result or change. The item centers the practitioner’s mind and helps them to direct energy, resulting in their desired outcome to manifest in the physical plane.”
SOURCE
In this instance, I am referring to number two. The object in question would be your hairbrush. The desired result or change would be your intention. This could be more confidence, courage, focus – whatever you wish!
Once your hairbrush is charmed, there are other ways to layer in your magick:
- Double down on your intention by brushing your hair in multiples of three as you visualize your objective coming to fruition
- Use brushing your hair as a way to ground yourself
- Brush your hair at night, beginning on the left side and working your way to the right, envisioning the accumulation of negative energies being brushed out
IN CONCLUSION…
Well Witches, there you have it! I hope this helps those who find themselves in a magickal slump, looking to bring themselves out of it. Just remember to be gentle with yourself. This happens to the best of us! I know it’s happened to me multiple times over the years. I find that when I am gentle with myself, my craft comes back to me stronger than before. Bright Blessings and Happy Crafting!
